Xavier Amador has consulted to the National Institute of Mental Health,
Veteran’s Administration, the U.S. Justice Department and other U.S. and
foreign government agencies involved in mental health research and
education.
Dr. Amador was appointed Co-Chair of the last text revision of the
Schizophrenia and related disorders section of the DSM IV-TR (often
referred to as the “Psychiatrists’ Bible”). However, he is probably best known for his work on the problem of poor insight into illness in
individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and his book “I Am
Not Sick”.

Dr. Amador has developed a well-respected reputation in the world forum of mental illness. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers including seven books. Several of his books and his work on the problem of poor insight have been translated into multiple languages and are frequently cited by scientists and policymakers.

Hospital and acting Chief of Staff of the Department of Psychiatry,

Dr. Bianca Lauria–Horner is presently leading a project involving the
development of an educational program for first line law enforcement
officers in the recognition of emotionally disturbed persons.
