Biolinerx begins trial of new medication
BioLineRx Ltd. today announced the start of Phase I clinical trials in Isreal to test the safety of BL-1020, a new molecule targeted at treating schizophrenia. The trial will be conducted at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital), and will be part of an US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) application.
BL-1020 is a small molecule to be taken orally. Early pre-clinical trials indicated that it might be as effective as anti-psychotic drugs, but not have the side effects associated with traditional treatments, such as motor problems and obesity.
Phase 1 trials are the first of a three-phase FDA approval process that will likely take another 3 to 5 years.

More Information on
Schizophrenia Medications in Development
I would like to know more about this molecule that
cures schitzophrenics. Do you accept outpatients?

please don't be misled. there is nothing that proves that this pill cures schizophrenia, and there is no molecule that cures schizophrenia. there is nothing in the article about how it works or what it is. for all we know, it is a food supplement, and is completely unregulated, and requires no proof of effectiveness to be sold. please let's first find out what it is and how it works.
until more is known about the medication, please treat it like any other new medication, a possible option, but needing more information. your doctor can discuss it with you and provide more information.

If this new molecule has made it to the FDA, then there must be something in it. This is a great hope for people suffering schizophrenia. I feel like I am doing time, waiting for it's release.

Hi Peter,
No - unfortunately that is not the case. Of every 100 new drugs that start the FDA drug testing process, less than one finally makes it to consumer availability. There are lots of problems that can be discovered in drug testing that can make the drug unsuitable for sale. As SLC suggested - this is interesting news - but its a long way from knowing if its going to be a good therapy or not.

That may be so for all other medications, however, as for Schizophrenia medications, I have not seen one that hasn't made it through the FDA. I cannot give up hope; I suffer from Schizophrenia myself. BL-1020 is the closest thing I have for a normal life.

Please, let's those of us who have faith in God Pray for this drug to be safe and a new effective treatment! My prayers are out there to all who suffer from this debilitating condition, may God bless you and send this help of BL-1020.

Drugs just supress the symptoms of schizophrenia. It's useless. I can cure schizophrenia without drugs...Yes, officially it's impossible, but I've already cured 6 people with this illness and 2 with manic depression (also incurable - haha). I'm fed with modern medicine, which doesn't accept alternative medicine, but it exists and Schizophrenia can be cured within a day without personal contact...
